FUNCTIONS:
Under the general guidance of the Director of the Division and 
supervision of the Chief of Branch, the incumbent plans, 
organizes and prepares analytical reports on global issues and 
trends in the disability field for the Commission for Social 
Development, Economic and Social Council and General Assembly.  
The incumbent also is responsible for planning and organizing 
quinquennial reviews to monitor implementation of the World 
Programme of Action concerning Disabled Persons and prepares 
policy-oriented reports of findings for consideration by the
General Assembly;  promotes greater awareness of and provides
substantive support to efforts aimed at furthering imlementation
of the United Nations Standard Rules on Disability, including
support to activities of the Special Rapporteur of the 
Commission for Social Development on Disability, his organization 
of periodic monitoring and evaluation exercises and preparation
of analytical reports of findings; provides substantive servicing
of intergovernmental bodies, interagency consultations and 
expert meetings concerning disability policies and programmes; 
plans and co-ordinates preparation of three issues per year of 
Disabled Persons Bulletin so that it is available for 
distribution on a timely and predictable basis; provides, 
on request, substantive support to development co-operation 
activities in the field of disability, including activities 
of the United Nations Voluntary Fund on Disability.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced university degree in a relevant social science or 
in international relations with emphasis on development policy
and planning from the disability perspective.  At least ten 
years' professional experience with increasing substantive 
and managerial responsibilities for policies and programmes 
in the field of disability, preferably in an international 
context.  Personal experience in disability an asset.
 
LANGUAGE:
Fluency and ability to work and draft effectively in English.  
Working knowledge of French or any of the other official 
languages of the United Nations an asset and highly desirable.
